A Shallotte man was arrested after allegedly filing a false claim in an effort to be compensated for damage previously done to his vehicle. Department of Insurance criminal investigators say that on August 15 Christopher Eric Grissett, 41, purchased a used vehicle with body damage, then filed a claim four days later with the National General Insurance Company for an alleged deer collision.

A Brunswick County man will be sentenced in November after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and felony child abuse in the death of his four-month-old son. The Brunswick County District Attorney’s Office announced to local media outlets Monday that 20-year-old Randy Richardson of Shallotte confessed to shaking Colton Richardson on May 28 of last year.

An alleged drunk driver faces several criminal charges after he reportedly hit a moped driver causing very serious injuries in Brunswick County. Officials with the State Highway Patrol are investigating the crash that happened just outside of Shallotte on Saturday night.

This morning at about 8:45, my girlfriend Brittny Roller dropped off a ceramic mask at the Cameron Art Museum’s “State of the Art/Art of the State,” an event in which artists from all over North Carolina have 24 hours, from noon yesterday to noon today, to bring one work of art to the CAM to hang in an exhibition through Feb. 12, and to meet one of four curators visiting from renown museums across the country. That means, with 2.5 hours left, this year’s “State of the Art/Art of the State” has a very good chance of receiving more artworks than the 2011 incarnation, in which 614 artists showed up in droves to have their artwork featured in a museum.

Shallotte Police are investigating a robbery at the First Community Bank located at the intersection of Main Street and Whiteville Road. Chief Gause with the Shallotte Police Department said they weren’t sure if the suspect had a weapon or not, or how much money the suspect actually got away with.
